AREA STATISTICS

*DALLAS IS THE LARGEST HOMELESS POPULATION IN TEXAS, FOLLOWED BY TARRANT COUNTY.

-ACCORDING TO THE LATEST FIGURES, NEARLY 26,000 PEOPLE IN TEXAS ARE HOMELESS.

-REPORT ESTIMATES NEARLY 7,000 CHILDREN FACE HOMELESSNESS IN TARRANT COUNTY. THE COUNTS NOT ONLY ON THE STREETS OR IN SHELTERS BUT CHILDREN THAT DONT HAVE A SAFE STABLE PLACE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT.

-THE NUMBER OF HOMELESS PEOPLE IN DALLAS AND COLLIN COUNTIES INCREASED 9 PERCENT OVER THE PAST YEAR.

-MORE THAN 300,000 DALLAS RESIDENTS LIVE IN POVERTY AND ALMOST 600,00 LIVE IN HOUSING DISTRESSED HOUSEHOLDS.

-22 PERCENT OF TARRANT COUNTY KIDS LIVE IN POVERTY. THIS IS ABOUT THE TENS AND THOUSANDS OF WORKING POOR FAMILIES THAT ARE REALLY STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET, BUT FLY UNDER THE RADAR.

-OF THE 2,000 BEDS IN DALLAS SHELTERS, MAJORITY ARE FULL EVERY NIGHT.

-WHEN THE COUNTY'S HOMELESS SERVICES AGENCIES DO ANNUAL POINT-IN-TIME HOMELESS COUNTS, THEY USE A MORE RESTRICTED DEFENITION, INCLUDES PEOPLE ONLY LIVING IN SHELTERS OR ON THE STREETS. BECAUSE PARENTS WITH KIDS OFTEN AVOID OR DONT EVEN KNOW ABOUT SHELTER SERVICES FOR FAMILIES, LESS THAN 2 PERCENT OF TARRANT COUNTY KIDS WHO EXPERIENCE HOMELESSNESS SHOW UP IN THE OFFICIAL STATISTICS.

-DALLAS ALSO LACKS AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING MARKET AS THE MEDIAN GROSS RENT OF $950.00 IS UN-AFFORDABLE TO THE HOMELESS POPULATION AND LOW INCOME RESIDENTS WHO EARN 0.30% OF THE DALLAS AMI (63.812) ARE EARNING 1617.8 PER MONTH

-IN 2019 THERE WAS 3,722 PERSONS WERE REPORTED EXPERIENCING HOMELESS OF WHICH 1,153 WERE UN-SHELTERED. IN DALLAS AND COLLIN COUNTY COMBINED A TOTAL OF 4,538 PERSONS WERE REPORTED EXPERIENCING HOMELESS OF WHICH 1,452 WERE UN-SHELTERED.

-IN TARRANT COUNTY NEARLY 1,924 PEOPLE WERE COUNTED AS EITHER LIVING UNSHELTERED, AND IN EMERGENCY SHELTERS ACCORDING TO AN ANNUAL TASK CONDUCTED BY THE TARRANT COUNTY HOMELESS COALITION.
